The Gardeneer Workshop
The Gardeneer Workshop includes 8 hrs of carpentry, 4hrs of forestry and 4hrs covering utilities and facilities for the gardening and landscaping tiny house dweller.

The carpentry portion of the workshop covers tools, vocabulary, techniques and process in planning and building a small wooden house.

The forestry portion attempts to show the beginner the steps in producing forest products such as cord wood, saw logs and pulp.

The gardening portion will show what is involved in setting up a large garden, and addressing the infrastructure needs of the seasonal gardener.

We will...
- Use a 1/5th scale model to get to know the names of all the parts of house.
- Discuss materials & choices for framing, sheathing, roofing, insulation and foundation systems.
- Make a complete materials list for a 12 X 16 building.
- Complete a cut list for our demonstration floor and wall.
- Provide instruction in use of hand tools and power tools.
- Frame an 8 x 12 floor, put down plywood and raise two walls wall to practice our skills.

- Tree identification.
- Timber cruising.
- Dropping, limbing and chunking wood by chainsaw.
- Splitting wood by hand.
- Sharpening your chainsaw.
The gardening portion will show what is involved in setting up a large garden, and addressing the infrastructure needs of the seasonal gardener.

- Fencing, bed preparation, soil amendments, hand tools.
- garden size, yield, timing
- Electricity, septic, water and food storage.

Gardening 8-9:00

Monday : We will do a hike up the Butternut ridge in the backyard for a couple of hours to get warmed up for Mt Mansfield later in the week. There are two abandoned homesteads to visit and 5 active beaver ponds. We will stop for 3 short talks. Learning skills strategies of Tony Buzan, vs. those of Edward Debono. Juggling as a learning skills enhancer. From sacred geometry to cognitive geometry by way of Bucky Fullers synergetic math, and Arthur Young's Process theory.
Tuesday : Tavern to Tavern ride. We get dropped off in Morrisville with our bikes at the Lost Nation Brewery that is right on the Lamoille Valley rail trail. 25 miles later we end up in Jeffersonville where there are several dinner options (Burger Barn, The Village Tavern, 158 Main to name a few). There are also several nearby swimming holes on the Brewster river to cool off.
Wednesday : Canoe trip. we hire Bert's Boats to set us up for a float down the mostly placid Lamoille river. We'll stop in on Prospect Rock Permaculture farm for a quick look-see. There is an excellent pond at a friends farm on the way home in Fletcher. He has a tiny house, large garden, and Gardeneer apprentice too!
Thursday : We hike 4393 foot high Mt Mansfield from Underhill state park. Takes me about 90 minutes to get to the top where there are great views of the Presidential range in N.H and the Adirondacks in N.Y In June we can go to the pick your own strawberries at Riverberry Farm.
Friday : recovery day from Mansfield. Review of everything learned

Forestry Topics Covered - Tree identification, Timber cruising, Dropping, limbing and chunking wood by chainsaw. Splitting wood by hand. Sharpening your chainsaw.
Carpentry Topics Covered - tools, vocabulary, techniques and process in planning and building a small wooden house. As well as other small carpentry projects.
Nightly Lectures on the following topics, Learning skills, Scared Geometry, Evening Lecture is on The History of History as seen by the futurist Alvin Toffler, and the cultural historian William Irwin Thompson, and anthropologist Jane Jacobs. Arthur M Young, Champion of the 4 fold typologist, with the most coherent rendering of the big, big, big picture.

Where do we stay? – Camping available on site (bring your own equipment, Closest lodging in Jeffersonville at either the Smugglers Notch Inn, or Sterling Ridge Resort.
Where to eat? - Meals not included, Field kitchen available.
What to bring? - If you plan to participate in the bike ride please bring a helmet and bike. For the daily hikes small backpack, water bottle, appropriate footwear and other gear.
What if the weather is bad? - The daily schedule as well as the afternoon trips can be tailored to the best days of the week.
